All of our Bullies are either sired by a Champion or come from Champion bloodlines. As a new owner, you will have full registration rights - this pertains to showing and breeding. Since most of our bullies are from Europe, they will be registered with the FCI. The FCI is the European registry and is transferable to the AKC. Once done, your Bully will be dual registered.
If you have ever wondered how the guy from your local newspaper can sell Bullies so cheap, the answer is in the question - "Cheap." This is a breed where you are more likely going to get what you pay for. This is not always the case, but when you're thinking about starting with this breed why would you want to take a chance like that? These dogs are expensive. All too many times I have heard folks say that when they purchased their first Bully they wished they would have went for quality over price. They paid for it in the long run and usually the next one they buy is from quality stock (proven bloodline). If you already have a quality Bully and you are looking for a "pal," you probably already know what I'm talking about and that is why you are here.
Breeders in Europe have been getting a bad rap here in the U.S. and I'm sure that for some there is good reason. We however, use a (one) top reputable breeder whose standing is good. All Bullies that are imported are thoroughly checked by a licensed veterinarian before they ship and when they arrive. They are all up to date on shots and wormings. While here, they are evaluated, socialized, loved on, sqeezed, hugged, kissed, and laughed at! They actually spend a lot of their time in our daughters room! Since we only import so few, we are able to give them the attention that they demand.
If you have read where some local breeders tell you to "beware", I couldn't agree more. What you must also ask yourself is, "is this because he/she has my best interest at heart or maybe is it because he/she wants you to buy from them?" For some folks, this IS a living........
PLEASE be aware of fraud! If you don't trust the people that you are dealing with, DON'T DEAL WITH THEM. There are too many honest folks involved with this breed to choose from.
Bullies are clowns at heart, loyal, protective and just down right fun to hang out with. When they are awake, they are absolutely full of themselves! They love to sleep, play, sleep some more, play...did I mention sleep? They become a member of the family, more so than any other breed I know. They can be independent, head-strong, humorous, lazy, but always LOVABLE! Sounds kinda like your teenagers huh?...They seem never to loose that child at heart mentality. They are the perfect family pet, good with children and other animals. I have had both male and female bullies and I have found very little difference in temperment. Some males can be a bit more territorial but really it all boils down to preference. It is not unusual for 10 year olds, both males and females, to be acting like puppies.
REGISTRATION
We personally like the FCI ( www.fci.be ) because of the strict standards that they place on breeders. To be able to breed your English Bulldog (and have it properly registered), it would of had to either placed high marks or be a champion within the show circut. The United States registries have left it up to the individual owners to maintain the standard. There are plenty of wonderful and dedicated breeders in this country who are honest and sincere about the betterment of the breed. There are also those that could care less. In my opinion certain other registries will register just about anything that resembles an English Bulldog as long as you have money. Once the contract is completed, we send this inforamtion to Europe and the registration/pedigree comes directly to you. There are no fees for you here. We pay the FCI and they send the paperwork to you. We only use the FCI and AKC registries for our Bullies. You be the judge.....
One thing about the FCI that I wish that I had more control of is the time frame when this will happen, it can take up to 6 months to recieve your paperwork but you will receive it....
BULLDOGS ARE EXPENSIVE AND UNFORTUNATELY HAVE A WIDE RANGE OF HEALTH ISSUES
Cherry eye, Entropion, Elongated soft pallet, Dermatitis, Hip Dysplasia, Excessive gastronal emissions (farts a lot
), etc.... are all common with this breed. Bulldogs are a "Man made" breed and as we all know, man is NOT perfect. We can try as we may to prevent these types of afflictions by giving our bullies the absolute best of care and only breed for the betterment of the breed. Still, these problems persist. You must be ready, willing and able to deal with them as they arise. If you are not then I'm afraid that the Bulldog breed might not be for you.

BABY BULLY POINTERS
Be careful of "textile" type toys. I will not allow my Bullies to play with rope toys or clothes type toys unsupervised. They can (and have) been swallowed and have had to be surgically removed. It can get "entwined" into the digestive system. Thus, not allowing anything either in or out and can eventually cause dehydration and death if not observed! This was an expensive lesson learned!
Keep your puppy clean. If you do this it will make for a healthier Bully. I recommend "Jumbo Pet Wipes" made by PETKIN. It is a product not too unlike baby wipes for bullies! You can get in the creases and folds, under belly and ears with this product. I get mine from PetSmart.
Keep their area clean. If you do this it will make for a healthier Bully.
Do not let them into unclean areas. This will greatly reduce your Bully's chance of picking up viruses.
Only feed quality dog food. Let others feed "Ol Roy" brand dog food, you need to feed either Royal Canin, Eukanuba, Science Diet or Iams. (There are plenty other quality feeds...you get the picture.) All of our bullies receive Royal Canin Bulldog formula (adults) or Royal Canin Medium Breed Puppy Food (puppies).
Avoid extreme temperatures! Keep 'em inside or in a "conditioned" structure.
Keep them secure! As you are well aware, this breed is expensive and the crooks know this too! All of my dogs are too friendly to be good watch dogs. They would watch the crook steal everything. LOL!
Watch them when they are in your yard, they can and do chew on everything! This includes dangerous plants.
Use common sense. Treat them like little children and you will be fine. This, along with regular check-ups to the vet and you should have many happy times together.
